The History of Port Gibson,

Manchester, NY est 1836

Ontario County had only one stop on the Erie Canal, the hamlet of Port Gibson. This pictorial exhibition is a wonderful case study of early land development along the Erie Canal. It is a well documented look at how land was purchased, subdivided and resold. See many of the oldest pictures available on the construction and reconstruction of this famous transportation link across New York State. In addition, images of the earliest buildings constructed by businessmen who saw the potential for making a livelihood from activity on Clinton's Big Ditch.
