Ontario County had only one stop
on the Erie Canal, the hamlet of Port Gibson. This pictorial
exhibition is a wonderful case study of early land development
along the Erie Canal. It is a well documented look at how land
was purchased, subdivided and resold. See many of the oldest
pictures available on the construction and reconstruction of
this famous transportation link across New York State. In addition,
images of the earliest buildings constructed by businessmen who
saw the potential for making a livelihood from activity on Clinton's
Big Ditch.
