OCHS is proud to announce the publication of the much-anticipated book about the Roseland Park experience. Roseland Park: Playground of the Finger Lakes, 19251985, written by Lynda McCurdy Hotra and Sherman Farnham, tells the engaging story of the lakeside park created by William Muar of Rochester and subsequently owned by Canandaigua’s Lester Boyce.
While the Canandaigua, New York, amusement center closed on September 2, 1985, thousands of people still share memories of happy days spent in this magical lakeshore park. This historical chronicle takes readers back in time to learn about Roseland’s varied rides and attractions, including the dance hall, miniature golf course, free acts, midway games, Philadelphia Toboggan Company carousel, and Skyliner roller coaster. The book includes detailed reminiscences from family members involved with its operation, former employees of the Muar and Boyce eras, and park patrons who recall their favorite stories.
This attractive book is 168 pages and colorfully illustrated with nearly 400 images, including many by professional photographer Tom Cooley who documented the park’s final season. Snapshots from family albums and museum archives, historical maps, period advertisements, and vintage postcards enliven the text. Sized and designed to resemble a scrapbook album, the 11” by 14” hardbound publication is printed on high-quality acid-free paper and has been individually shrink-wrapped to ensure a crisp, new appearance.
